Privacy Policy
Effective November 7, 2026
Courthouse Access (courthouseaccess.com) is a free, independent courthouse directory. This policy explains what information we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We are not a court, a government agency, or a law firm.
1. Information You Give Us
You can use the directory without giving us any personal information. We only collect it when you fill out one of our forms:
- Attorney evaluation request: your name, phone number, email, county and state, case type, court date, what you need, any message you write, the courthouse and page you sent it from, and your consent choice.
- Law firm partnership inquiry: contact name, firm name, work email, phone, target counties and state, practice area, and notes.
- Courthouse correction: your name, email, county and state, update type, and your message.
- Email: anything you send to hello@courthouseaccess.com.
Please do not put sensitive details about your case (such as medical information or evidence) in a form. A short description is enough.
2. Information Collected Automatically
- Form abuse protection: when you submit a form we store a one-way hash of your IP address mixed with the date, used only to limit repeated submissions. We do not store your IP address itself. We also record the country your request came from.
- Hosting and analytics: our site runs on Cloudflare, which processes standard request data (IP address, browser, pages requested) to deliver and secure the site. We may use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts visits without cookies.
- Advertising cookies: see section 5.
3. How We Use Information
- To pass your attorney evaluation request to local attorneys, if you asked us to (see section 4).
- To reply to partnership inquiries and courthouse corrections, and to update our courthouse data.
- To prevent spam, fraud and abuse of our forms.
- To understand which pages are useful and improve the site.
4. When We Share Your Information
- With local attorneys, only when you ask. If you submit an attorney evaluation request and check the consent box, we share your request with up to two independent licensed attorneys or law firms in your area, who may contact you by phone, text or email. These firms may pay us for advertising or for receiving requests. Each firm handles your information under its own privacy policy. We are not a law firm, do not give legal advice, and do not recommend or endorse any attorney. No attorney-client relationship exists until you agree to one directly with an attorney.
- With service providers that run the site for us (such as Cloudflare for hosting and our email provider), only as needed to provide their service.
- For legal reasons, if required by law, subpoena or court order, or to protect our rights and the safety of others.
- In a sale or transfer of the site, the new owner would be bound by this policy.
We do not share courthouse correction or partnership messages with attorneys or advertisers.
5. Advertising and Cookies
We may show ads from third-party networks, including Google. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet.
You can opt out of personalized advertising from Google at Google Ads Settings, and from many other vendors at aboutads.info/choices. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Ads are labeled and never influence our courthouse data.
6. How Long We Keep Information
We keep form submissions for up to 24 months and then delete them, unless you ask us to delete them sooner or we must keep them for legal reasons. Attorneys who received your request keep their copy under their own policies.
7. Your Choices and Rights
You can ask us to tell you what personal information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it, by emailing hello@courthouseaccess.com. We will respond within 45 days. We will not treat you differently for making a request.
California residents: under the California Consumer Privacy Act you have the right to know, delete, and correct your personal information, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of it. Because attorneys may pay us when we pass along a request you made, that sharing may count as a "sale" under California law. It only happens when you ask us to connect you with an attorney. To opt out of any further sharing, email us with the subject "Do Not Sell or Share."
Visitors in other states and countries with similar privacy laws (such as Virginia, Colorado, Texas, or the EU and UK) can make the same requests by email.
8. Calls and Texts
Attorneys who receive your request may contact you by phone or text at the number you gave. You can tell any attorney to stop contacting you, and you can reply STOP to any text message.
9. Security
All pages and forms use encrypted HTTPS connections, and form data is stored in a restricted database. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Children
This site is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has sent us information, email us and we will delete it.
11. Links to Other Sites
We link to official court websites and other sites we do not control. Their privacy practices are their own.
12. Changes to This Policy
If we change this policy, we will update the effective date above. Significant changes will be noted on this page.
